Toyota Tsusho Group’s electronics trading company, NEXTY Electronics Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuhiro Kakihara; hereinafter “NEXTY Electronics”), has signed a license agreement with Neonode Inc. (Head Office: Stockholm, Sweden; CEO: Fredrik Nihlén; hereinafter “Neonode”) to manufacture and sell sensor modules. Signed in September, this agreement allows NEXTY Electronics to sell sensor modules, which it will also manufacture.

Installing Neonode’s sensor modules adds touch panel functionality to non-touch devices.

■ Background 

Neonode’s sensor modules are products that, when easily retrofitted onto customers’ existing monitors, allow the monitor to be used as a touch panel. Since entering into a distributorship agreement with Neonode in 2021, NEXTY Electronics has facilitated the installation of several compact sensor modules in public buildings, airports, supermarkets, and other locations throughout Japan. With the recent license agreement, NEXTY Electronics is now able to manufacture and sell sensor modules. This includes mid-sized sensor modules for monitors up to 32 inches, allowing NEXTY Electronics to deliver products that are more closely tailored to the specific needs of each customer.

Neonode’s sensor modules provide the following benefits:

1: Easy installation 

Simply attach the module to the customer’s monitor to use it as a touch panel.

2: A simple structure designed to fit any monitor shape 

Sensors are typically arranged in two axes (vertical and horizontal) to detect position. However, the technology used in Neonode’s modules enables detection with only one axis. This simplifies the module’s structure and allows it to be used with almost any shape of monitor.

3: Can be used with gloves 

Unlike capacitive touch panels found in many devices, such as smartphones, these modules use optical sensing. This means they can be operated while wearing gloves or when hands are wet or dirty.

With its simple structure, Neonode’s sensor module can be used with a variety of monitor shapes.

By utilizing Neonode’s versatile sensor modules, NEXTY Electronics aims to address challenges across a variety of industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare.
