Technological fields suitable for significant efficiency improvements

As a supplier of semiconductors and system solutions, Infineon is constantly developing innovative and efficient solutions. Responding to the latest market trends in commercial vehicles, construction equipment, and agricultural vehicles (CAVs) requires more environmentally friendly products and solutions. This is especially true for CAVs, which must operate with the highest possible availability and the lowest possible total cost of ownership (TCO).
Semi-automatic and fully automated driving technologies enhance safety for users while improving efficiency and precision. Machines that operate 24/7 without downtime. Tractors that automatically recognize their surroundings and respond based on collected data. With such machines, systems operated entirely by humans will literally be left behind. At the same time, electrification is becoming an increasingly attractive option for CAVs. Manufacturers are relying on electric drivetrains to comply with the latest emissions and energy regulations. Simultaneously, users are seeing improvements in process efficiency and yield through electrification.

From driver assistance to autonomous driving

The CO2 reduction benefits of electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) are noteworthy. This system precisely and on demand supplies the amount and pressure of oil necessary to operate the hydraulic steering system in industrial vehicles. Switching from all-hydraulic to EHPS can result in fuel savings of 0.9–1.2% and a CO2 reduction of 6–11 g/km.
At the same time, basic EHPS can meet lower safety requirements compared to more complex steering systems. Since complex steering systems require Level 2 or higher autonomous driving systems, EHPS and all-electric power steering (EPS) are, and will continue to be, cutting-edge technologies.
Find what you need to get started with your design. Infineon offers a wide range of semiconductor solutions for basic EHPS (Levels 0-1) and 24V EPS systems with active steering for lane departure prevention (Level 2), contributing to CO2 reduction and improved traffic safety. Infineon's 24V EPS solutions for fail-operational steering enable highly automated commercial vehicles (Levels 3-4) and even fully autonomous driving for CAVs.
