The MAX22216/MAX22217 incorporates four programmable 36V half-bridges. They are primarily intended for driving inductive loads such as solenoid on/off valves, DC motors, proportional valves, bistable valves, and relays. The MAX22216 can supply up to 3.2 AFS per half-bridge, while the MAX22217 can supply up to 1 AFS per half-bridge. The MAX22216/MAX22217 operate in ambient temperatures from -40°C to +125°C.
The MAX22216/MAX22217 half-bridge supports two use cases. The first use case allows configuration settings to be entered via the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), and these settings can be changed at any time. The second use case allows settings to be saved in a one-time programmable (OTP) register and loaded at startup. This enables standalone operation. The register is user-configurable. The OTP writing procedure should be performed in a factory where temperature and voltage conditions are properly controlled.
High-side/low-side single-ended drive configurations and bridged-load (BTL) configurations are supported. Furthermore, channel parallelization is supported, as well as voltage-controlled, current-controlled, and hybrid control schemes.
In voltage-driven regulation mode (VDR mode), the half-bridge output voltage is controlled, and POWER SUPPLIES fluctuations are compensated internally.
In current-driven regulation mode (CDR mode), the half-bridge output current is controlled. The current is detected internally and fed back to the controller for precise closed-loop regulation. Furthermore, steady-state errors and dynamic performance can be optimized by setting proportional and integral gains.
