Overview of Switcher® 3
Silent Switcher 3 is based on the technology of previous Silent Switcher generations and introduces the following two new features.
- Extremely low low-frequency noise
- Extremely fast load transient response
These are new concepts, and traditionally, low-frequency noise has not been a consideration in conventional switching regulators.
Due to the high noise levels associated with switching regulators, it has been common practice to connect an LDO or, in addition, a filter at the output for sensitive loads that are sensitive to noise. However, Silent Switcher 3 is the latest technology that alleviates these concerns.

The Evolution of SilentSwitcher

The figure below shows the power tree for supplying power to Analog Devices' RF transmitter-receiver.
Power is supplied directly through a filter from Silent Switcher 3 devices such as the LT8627SP.
Traditionally, such usage would not have been considered, as it would not have been possible to fully leverage the characteristics of these RF products without using an LDO to remove noise.
However, it has been confirmed that this configuration provides better performance compared to using a conventional LDO.
