Handling Regions

Acconeer AB is a manufacturer specializing in 60Ghz radar chips, headquartered in Malmö, Sweden.
While the trend in the radar industry is to shift from the 24 GHz band to the 79 GHz band, it is said that mass market products will converge on the 60 GHz band.Acconer AB was the first to start developing 60 GHz radar in 2007, using a special technology called Pulsed Coherent (PCR), and has continued to do so to this day.
Acconeer AB's patented PCR is an innovative technology that combines the advantages of pulsed waves and modulated waves, making it easy to apply to products that have previously been difficult to apply due to technical and cost reasons.

Acconeer AB's 60Ghz ultra-compact pulsed coherent radar chip explores new sensor technology.

Corporate History
2007: Lund University Nanoelectronics Research Team succeeds in detecting the world's shortest wavelength
2012 Acconeer was founded with support from Lund University
2014 System level demo machine test conducted
2016: First prototype release
2017: Adoption decided, first commercial product launched, listed on NASDAQ
Commercial mass production begins in 2018

<Radar technology>
Radar technology has a history of being developed for the military, but the specialized hardware design, high system costs, difficulty in algorithm development, etc. have been hurdles to its adoption in general and civilian products. Acconeer will realize a new form of millimeter wave radar that will eliminate these issues.

<Acconeer's Advantages>
・ ANTENNAS built into the surface of the chip
・PCR (Pulse Coherent Radar) technological innovation
・High accuracy despite being ultra-compact and low power consumption
・Possessing a PCR patent for cutting-edge sensor technology
- Analysis in picoseconds without conversion to intermediate frequencies
・Measurement can be done in millimeters within a range of about 2m
・5.5mm×5.2mm×0.88mm ultra small
・No application required under the Radio Law as the output is less than weak radio waves
・Can be incorporated into battery-powered portable devices
・If the housing is permeable to radio waves, no sensor opening is required.
- Minimal influence of natural environments such as noise, dust, and light

Major products

A111

Ultra-small radar chip with built-in ANTENNAS

  • Ultra-small chip 5.2mm x 5.5mm
  • ANTENNAS, DSP, PLL, and LDO are integrated into one chip, eliminating the need to design and develop an external ANTENNAS
  • You can easily build a hardware system by simply selecting the processor that best suits your needs.
  • For normal use, the output is less than weak radio waves, so no application under the Radio Law is required.
  • The free software (Service/Detector) called RSS (Radar System Software) provided by Acconeer can be incorporated into the processor according to the application to build a sensor system.
  • Various measurements can be performed using the open source Github-based GUI called Exploration Tool

Wide-angle/Range

Wide angle: 80 degrees horizontal, 40 degrees vertical
Range: 0.1-8m

Free RSS (Service / Detector)

・Service
Choose from Acconeer's "Envelope", "Powerbin", "IQ" and "Sparse" to achieve optimal measurements for your sensor application.
・Detector
If the purpose is specified, it is developed based on the Service.
Detector “Distance”, “Presence”, “Speed”,
It is also possible to incorporate "Button Press", "Breathing", and "Obstacle".

Github Open Source GUI ( Exploration Tool )

You can check the measurement waveform, adjust parameters, and store and play back dynamic measurement results.

A wide range of applications

It is now possible to consider radar in a variety of fields where ANTENNAS design and price have previously been a major hurdle.

  • Human presence detection (inside vehicle/entry count)
  • Gesture control (contactless)
  • Bathroom (fall and drowning detection)
  • Surface detection (remaining tank/bottle box)
  • Healthcare (breathing and pulse)
  • Railways (rail distortion and vibration detection)
  • Speed Detection
  • Smart Parking
  • Material detection (cleaning robot)
  • Collision detection and prevention (service robots, industrial robots)
  • In-car (kick sensor)

In-car human detection

For automotive applications, it can be used as a kick sensor or for in-car occupancy detection, which is now mandatory in Europe.

Entrance count

It can be used to manage people flow and entry/exit using algorithms specialized for motion detection.

Gesture Control

This is an example of contactless gesture control using a specially developed algorithm.

Fall and drowning detection

Taking advantage of the characteristics of 60 GHz radio waves, it can be considered for use in monitoring the presence of people in bathrooms where humidity is high.

Tank remaining amount detection

Tank level detection is one of Acconeer's most common use cases.

Liquid level detection

It has a proven track record in detecting liquid levels as well as remaining tank volume.

Breath detection

It can be used for vital signs such as monitoring breathing conditions under certain conditions.

Speed Detection

It detects the speed of various objects by reading changes in phase.
(e.g., club swing speed)

Smart Parking

Smart parking applications, which are seeing accelerating market growth in Europe, are also one of Acconeer's most common applications.

Material Detection

It will be possible to detect floor materials (tiles/carpet) and water droplets, preventing breakdowns in the self-propelled cleaning robot.
