What is Screening Inspection?

Even products that have passed the manufacturer’s inspection may occasionally contain defective parts that slip through and are shipped to customers.
If these defective parts are unknowingly used in assembly, they can cause failures or malfunctions, reducing yield within the production process. If such defects reach the market, the resulting recall costs and damage to corporate image can lead to significant losses for the company.
Screening inspection is a process designed to eliminate such defective items by checking the quality of products or components and removing those that are defective or do not meet specified standards.

NEXTY Electronics Screening Inspection Services

We also provide good product analysis and cross-section analysis in combination with reliability testing (accelerated testing).

At NEXTY Electronics, we offer two types of screening inspections: visual inspection and X-ray inspection.
Visual inspection covers a wide range of issues such as marking defects, package cracks or fractures, bent leads, lead discoloration, burrs, and foreign material adhesion. These inspections are primarily performed visually by trained inspectors within our company.

Inspectors refer to NG limits (criteria defining acceptable defects or flaws in product or component appearance) to maintain consistent detection accuracy and select products that meet specifications.
In addition, automated inspection is available for visual checks. For long-term inspection requirements, automated equipment can also be utilized.
Our inspection rooms are maintained within prescribed control values and equipped with ESD protection, providing a secure environment for handling customer products.

X-ray Inspection – Example of Defective Detection

Background: After delivering purchased components to the customer, frequent defects were found during product testing after assembly.
Inspection Overview: X-ray inspection was conducted on the components.
Result: Several IC components were found with detached bonding wires.

X-ray Inspection by Nexty Electronics: Image of Defective Product Detection Example

Normally, wires should be regularly bonded to the correct positions on the chip. However, defective products showed bonding failures and wire displacement, resulting in poor connections.
The suspected cause was weak bonding strength, which led to wire detachment during the resin encapsulation process and subsequent wire displacement.
Until the component manufacturer provided countermeasure products, continued delivery was permitted on the condition that defective items were removed through our X-ray sorting inspection.
