Product overview

Infineon's smart power SWITCHES are semiconductor SWITCHES consisting of high-side (PROFET™) and low-side (HITFET™) switches with built-in protection and diagnostic functions. By replacing conventional relays and FUSES or simplifying DISCRETE configurations, they achieve high-speed SWITCHES, short-circuit, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection, restart (retry), current sensing, and more, all on a single chip. For automotive applications, they support a wide range of systems, from 12V/24V/48V, and are available in single- to multi-channel configurations. Families that comply with automotive grade standards based on AEC-Q100 and ISO 26262 (PRO-SIL™) are also available, making them suitable for body systems, power distribution, lighting, heating, motor/solenoid drives, and more.

The high-side PROFET™ range includes PROFET™ +2 for 12V, +12V / +24V / Power PROFET™, the high-performance Load Guard / Wire Guard, and PROFET™ Industrial for industrial applications. They are designed with enhanced diagnostics and protection features, such as RDS(on) 1.2 to 200 mΩ (+2 12V), operation up to 28V, up to 4 channels, and analog current sensing.

Low-side HITFET™ integrates protection functions such as over-temperature, short circuit, over-current, over-voltage, and ESD for 12/24V applications, offering greater reliability and ease of use than DISCRETE FETs.

Use cases and implementation examples

Use Case 1: Body Control & Zone Power Distribution (BCM/Zone ECU)

[Use case overview]
In recent years, automotive architecture has shifted from a centralized to a zone control type, requiring high reliability and diagnostic functions for power distribution units and body control modules (BCMs). PROFET™ +2 12V features multi-channel configuration and analog current sensing, allowing it to centrally control a variety of loads such as door locks, seat adjustments, lighting, and heaters. It replaces conventional relays and FUSES, reducing the number of components and supporting functional safety.

[Major features]
Load diagnostics with analog current sensing (kILIS)
Overcurrent, overtemperature, and short circuit protection
AEC-Q100 compliant, ISO 26262 Ready

Use Case 2: Relay replacement for lighting and heating loads

[Use case overview]
Loads such as LED headlights and seat heaters have traditionally been driven by relays, but they have had issues with lifespan, response speed, and diagnostic capabilities.
Power PROFET™ replaces relays and FUSES with semiconductors thanks to its ultra-low on-resistance and high current capability. It features automatic shutdown and restart functions in the event of an overload or short circuit, enhancing vehicle safety and reliability.

[Major features]
Ultra-low RDS(on) (up to 1mΩ class) for high current loads
Load dump resistant (up to 43V)
High-speed SWITCHES allows PWM control

Use case 3: Load control for 24V commercial vehicles and construction machinery

[Use case overview]
In 24V systems used in trucks and construction machinery, the risk of overcurrent and overvoltage due to long CABLES and inductive loads is high, making robust protection and diagnostics essential. The PROFET™ +24V series features protection functions optimized for 24V systems and PWM drive compatibility, safely controlling loads such as valves, pumps, and motors.

[Major features]
Overcurrent and overtemperature protection for 24V systems
Load dump resistance for long CABLES lengths
PWM drive support
