Background of the Project and Social (Customer) Issues

Transport is an essential process for both producing and delivering products to customers. However, because the transport environment changes and physical impacts can sometimes result in defective products, it is critical to understand cargo status during transport.

Transport conditions can fluctuate due to a variety of factors that include means of transport and weather, which can have a significant impact on the cargo. However, it has previously been difficult to record or verify transport conditions, making it difficult to identify risks in transport and the causes of problems when they do occur.

For example, sensitive cargo such as precision instruments, medical devices, and food products is highly vulnerable to minor changes in temperature and humidity and to impacts. Furthermore, physical impacts are more likely to occur during international transport than domestic transport due to the need to transfer loads to another mode of transportation, and temperature and humidity changes also fluctuate more due to longer travel distances.

Delivering products safely under these conditions requires a DX solution that can capture transportation data and help improve quality.

Our Solution

The Qualcomm Aware Platform is an IoT solution that makes it easy to check various data (location, temperature, impact, etc.) obtained from sensing devices. We can provide this IoT solution to customers when it suits their needs.

<Features of the Qualcomm Aware Platform>

(1) The device, which is equipped with sensors that detect temperature, humidity, air pressure, light level, tilt, and other parameters, records the transport status of products that require strict temperature control or are sensitive to impacts.

(2) Data collected by the device’s sensors can be uploaded to the cloud and linked to an API (Application Programming Interface), making it easy to check the location and status of the cargo from a dashboard.

(3) Global positioning is acquired using a hybrid of GNSS*1, cellular and Wi-Fi-based services, enabling connection in the most appropriate manner for the product’s situation and location while consuming minimal power.

(4) The communication method employs eSIM*2 to automatically connect even across national borders, ensuring that information can be continuously acquired while providing consistent global communication rates*3.

These features enable the continuous collection and delivery of data that helps ensure the quality of transported products.
