Toyota Tsusho Nexty Electronics India Private Ltd. (“NEIN” below), which is a subsidiary of Nexty Electronics Corporation (President: Atsushi Aoki; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; “Nexty Electronics” below), an electronics trading firm within the Toyota Tsusho Group, established a technology center in New Delhi, India on November 25, 2019 to write specifications, Design & Development, provide hardware and software evaluation and test for control components  in motors of two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles and household appliances like air conditioners, Fans, etc.

Background and Purpose of the Technology Center

In India, where air pollution has become a serious problem, the government is implementing policies to encourage vehicle electrification, such as regulations on exhaust emissions in the vehicle-mounted device market and tax exemptions for purchases of electric vehicles. In addition, in the consumer market, a shift to inverter household air conditioners is underway and energy-saving countermeasures are being implemented. Furthermore, although the ‘Make in India’ program to shift to more domestic manufacturing is picking up speed, the knowledge and technology for hardware and software in motor control, which is critical for vehicle electrification and transitioning to inverter air conditioners, has not been accumulated in India, while facilities have not been readied, either.

Therefore, NEIN established a technology center in India to provide Indian manufacturers aspiring to domestic production a suite of offerings, from specification writing for motor controls which is the key to electrification of two- and three-wheeled vehicles　and air conditioner inverters, to hardware and software design, development, simulation and heat resistance testing. The center has prepared facilities for design and software development tools, equipment for measuring and inspection. Moreover, the center takes advantage of a track record in development, primarily in the in-vehicle domain, to provide comprehensive support for customers’ development. This support is realized with CTOs from major Tier 1 manufacturers with experience and proficiency in both hardware and software. In the future, the center will also provide technical and development support for aspiring domestic manufacturers in four-wheeled vehicle electrification market as well as industries shifting to more electronics and sectors such as medicine and consumer equipment.

The shift to domestic development in India will help the country‘s manufacturers reduce the duties they pay on imports and develop cost-competitive products, while also contributing to business acceleration and solutions to social issues in India.
